Tom Oldroyd Launches Meat-free Menu at His Islington Restaurant

Chef and restaurateur Tom Oldroyd is launching ‘Meat Free Mondays’ at his eponymously named London restaurant.

From April 30, the Islington restaurant will serve a menu of solely vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes for both the lunch and dinner service.

Oldroyd says he plans to make Mondays a platform to showcase the versatility of the humble vegetable.

With a menu renowned for its flavourful sharing plates, utilising the best of British seasonal and local produce and taking inspiration from his travels throughout Europe, Oldroyd won plaudits from customers and restaurant critics alike when it opened in July 2015 and has become a mainstay on the capital’s dining scene.

Meat Free Mondays (#MeatFreeMondays) will now enable Oldroyd and his chefs to create innovative, exciting and delicious meat-free dishes using the fresh fruit and vegetables that come into the kitchen; as well as some lesser-known ingredients such as Alexander roots, white sprouting broccoli and three-cornered leeks.

With one of the smallest kitchens in London, the team at Oldroyd have been determined to not let their limited space affect the versatility of the menu, offering a list of dishes that appeals to all customer bases and tastes.

Mondays at the restaurant will now allow the restaurant the ability to focus solely on fruit and vegetables.

Dishes on Oldroyd’s ‘Meat Free Mondays’ menu will continue to reflect the restaurant’s European influences, including beetroot tart fine with whipped goat’s curd and hazelnut praline; truffled egg yolk ravioli and Jerusalem artichoke veloute, and an Italian-inspired fritto misto di verdure with courgette flowers, Violetta artichokes and wild garlic.

Oldroyd says: “As a nation we have come on leaps and bounds in offering more dishes suited to vegetarians and vegans, or those who simply want to reduce the amount of meat they eat.

“It’s also something that our regular customers ask for a lot, but with such a small menu it’s tricky, so by introducing Meat Free Mondays at Oldroyd we now have the opportunity to dedicate one whole day to a delicious, fruit and vegetable-based menu.”

‘Meat Free Mondays’ will launch at Oldroyd from lunch service on Monday, April 30, and lunch and dinner each Monday thereafter. The normal a la carte menu will be served for the rest of the week.
