Ben Merrylees – Bathurst Arms

Ben Merrylees square

Having been born in the Cotswolds I was brought up with the delights of the surrounding produce in this area. I have worked my whole career in and around the Cotswolds and have had the delights to work with some of the best chefs in the country.

I started my career as a trainee at Gloucestershire college which I feel is a great starting point for all chefs who want to work in the industry, but also I was working part time in a very well run busy kitchen in Cheltenham, fortunately there I was offered a full time position and willingly took the offer up and never have I once looked back. I have worked from the north to the south of the Cotswolds and have seen a great variety on cooking using only the freshest of ingredients. I pride myself on still only using the best and freshest of ingredients to provide the best cuisine I can create.

Having worked in rosette established kitchens I know the hard work and labour that goes in to create a wholesome experience for the customers, it is always a constant learning curve and one I relish in and one of the only jobs I can think of that brings a smile to my face everyday. It is passion and dedication that gives me the drive to strive to be the best I can.

Being the head chef at the Bathurst Arms brings me immense joy and I hope that with my food I can convey that to the customers that walk through the door.
