Joining the Chefs Forum though Bournemouth & Poole College is a fantastic way of keeping in touch with the many great chefs we have in the South West, it will allow our students to be exposed to some of the finest Hotels & restaurants in this Country and share best practices with other great Colleges in our area. This can only be a good thing moving forward, so that we can continue bringing young chefs with quality training into our ever changing industry”


Trained at the Bournemouth & Poole College from 1997-2000, Gary has a wealth of experience as a chef, including positions working at The De Vere Royal Bath Hotel, Bournemouth: The House of Commons, London: The De Vere Belfry, West Midlands: Whittlebury Hall, Management Training Centre Hotel & Spa, Northampton: Suvretta House Hotel, St Mortiz Switzerland, Careys Manor Hotel in the New Forest and as a personal chef aboard a luxury charter yacht, Masquerade of Sole in the Mediterranean.


Gary has participated in many large functions, including The take four Chefs Charity dinners in 1997, 1998, 1999 & 2001 the 2001 & 2002 State Opening of Parliament, the lying in State of the Queen Mother, Labour and Conservative Party conferences, The 2002 Ryder Cup, Virgin Annual Conference, British Grand Prix Weekend 2005 & 2006, St Moritz Gourmet Food Festival 2004, The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths 40th Anniversary Dinner in London 2001, The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths Royal Bath Reunion in 2004.


Since 1997  Gary has competed in over 50 competitions here and abroad, winning 35 medals & trophies including, The William Heptinstall Scholarship 2002,  First in Class & Best of the day Food Hygiene Live Theatre Hotelympia 2002, The Midlands Association of Chefs Young Chef of the Year 2003 and the 2005 Dorset & Hampshire Chef of year. In 2009 Garyled a team of 5 students to a 19 medal haul at the Istanbul Gastronomy Festival and gained 3rd place in the International Grand prix. 2010 saw Gary mentor Dan Millington who won The Caterer, Licensee & Hotelier Student Chef of the Year 2010 held at the Wessex Salon Culinaire and is the team mentor for Bournemouth & Poole college students entering competitions such as the British Culinary Federation Student Cook & Serve challenge held yearly in Stratford upon Avon, Hoteloympia, Hospitality Salon Culinaire and The Wessex Salon Culinaire.


Following serious injuries in a road accident, Gary was forced to quit the kitchen and is employed full time at the Bournemouth & Poole College as an Apprenticeships co-ordinator, is a trained teacher and holds the IOSH health & safety Qualification.


Gary regularly gives up his own time to judge competitions at national Salon Culinaire’s helps organise the Harvest ‘Yes Chef’ school competition held in Dorset, runs the Junior chefs academy at College and mentors students how to compete in competitions themselves.
